obligatory first post
Welp. I accidentally flooded my last blog with poetry and now that I have bearblog premium I can finally set up a wonderful NEW BLOG where I can yap about stuff I care about, and dump my astrophotos.
From my old blog:
My professor said I should write more to improve my writing style. She suggested writing little snippets every week or so. This is perfect material for a blog. Whatever happens to be on my mind will probably be posted, from the interesting to the inane.
Considering that was written, nearly 3 years ago, I feel like I've come a long way in that aspect. I've been using bearblog for over 3 and a half years now, and I've appreciated how simple and handy it is. I also appreciated that it was free, as a broke college student it feels so good to not be cornered by subscription services for something that I would only use as a means of public self expression that feels remarkably obscure. A tidy corner of the internet for myself, unbound from the hellish landscape of algorithms and minmaxxing post stats for attention-seeking behavior. I like it here.
I'm a pretty firm believer in owning what you buy outright. If I need to pay a subscription to keep it operational, I'm less likely to get it if at all. I did the math on a bearblog premium one time purchase and considering it averages out to ~4 years of bearblog use and i've already used bearblog for so long as is, that price is more than worth it. Plus sharing a common account means I don't need to create protonmail accounts over and over every time I want a new blog.
I made this blog theme to reflect the phosphor colors found in american generation 3 image intensifier tubes: P43 green and P45 white. I've desatured the P43 green shade since it is quite close to a spectral green or chartreuse and while there is a benefit for green on black for visual contrast, I find it induces severe eyestrain after prolonged use. The P45 white is actually surprisingly variable between manufacurers, so I stick with what I know (colormatched with my L3Harris tube)
for an obligatory first post i've said more than plenty, otherwise I will run out of things to say.
